Through Time and Space...
The history of the entire universe won’t fit in this section, or even this page, so let’s zoom in. We’ll start with some of mankind’s earliest documented efforts to observe outer space in detail and interact with it. Two early societies stood out here; the ancient Babylonians and the ancient Egyptians. The two had different ways of obtaining their data, but they both figured out something big.
This was when humans realized the stars weren’t random - they were looking at actual objects floating out there. They started creating early star catalogs - basically spreadsheets before Excel was a thing. They even started working on the first real calendars, based on cycles of the sun and moon. 💫
Ancient Greeks came along to shake things up, as they always do, and created some of the first known models of the universe that revolved around Earth. These geocentric models contained some of the most basic ideas that would go on to shape space study for centuries to come, and stood for hundreds of years before being challenged. Modern teachers could only wish for such power.
The race to understand outer space took two major twists in the 1600s, all thanks to just two dudes. For starters, Galileo Galilei, the same guy who gets namedropped in Bohemian Rhapsody, figured out that Jupiter had moons, and studied them extensively. He blew the whole “geocentric” thing to smithereens without even pulling out his flint and steel, then built a new theory from the rubble.
This heliocentric view went on to influence Sir Isaac Newton - you know, the gravity apple guy - when he studied the laws of motion, and came up with the concept of universal gravitation. Thanks to these two, we know about things like orbit. 🪐
In 1903, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky came up with the rocket equation, giving us the mathematical building blocks for getting off the ground and out into the stars. Nothing came of it for a while, but when it did, things really kicked off hard. Space exploration history accelerated faster than a rocket launch from here.
The V-2 rocket came out during World War II, then the Russians launched Sputnik 1 in 1957. This was a big deal - there had been flights out into and beyond Earth’s atmosphere leading up to this point, but this was the first time an orbital satellite had been put in place. This is where the space age takes off for real. 🚀
In 1961, the Vostok 1 took Yuri Gagarin out into space, making him the first human to leave their home planet behind. 8 years later, the famous words, “To infinity and beyond” - wait, wait, wrong catch phrase, sorry everyone! It was actually, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. This phrase was uttered by Neil Armstrong, who took off on the Apollo 11 mission alongside Buzz Aldrin. These brave astronauts became the first men to walk on the moon.
These days, we have the International Space Station, numerous NASA missions, Mars Rovers, SpaceX, and the always fun Kennedy Space Center, where you can buy a cheap astronaut toy, check out vehicles bound for Mars, or even watch a real space launch happen.
One of the biggest events in recent space history was the Voyager 1 reaching interstellar space in 2012. It was the first vessel to do that, meaning it actually went beyond our Solar System. It launched all the way back in 1977, but sometimes, slow and steady really does win the race. Seems that first saying in the previous paragraph wasn’t entirely inaccurate, even if it was a toy that said it.
The Solar System that our Earth is part of shapes how the planet evolves life, and what our daily lives look like. This means each celestial body therein is worth a look, or maybe a squeeze! Since diving into the history of all of them would take forever, and probably a vastly more qualified astrologist than yours truly, we’ll hit some fast facts about each one instead.
Let’s start close to home - right here at our home planet, to be precise. A flabbergasted person may say, “What on God’s green Earth -?!”, but in actuality, 71% of the planet’s surface is water! The whole thing is covered by an atmosphere - a thick layer of gas that shields us from space radiation, makes the UV light from the sun a bit less intense, and even helps protect us from meteors.
Moving onward and outward, let’s talk about the moon - which is actually moving away from us at a rate of about 1.5 inches each year! The moon’s gravity affects the tides that move Earth’s ocean water around, so the further away it gets, the less these tides stick to their usual patterns. 🌙
The next step is a real hot spot - the sun! This massive ball of burning gas makes up some 99.8% of the mass in our Solar System. Thankfully, our very own Sun Star Plushie Stuffed Orb is nowhere near that big, meaning it’s perfectly huggable!
Mercury is up next on our spacefaring tour. It’s a planet of extremes - extreme speed around the sun, and extreme swings in temperature, not unlike your significant other’s mood on a bad day. Here’s a kicker for you - even though it’s the closest planet to the sun, it’s actually not the hottest.
Venus takes the crown as the hottest planet orbiting our sun, thanks to one weird trick - it spins backwards! This hottie was also named after a goddess of love, so the plush version would likely make a great, subtly romantic gift for the key hottie in your life. 🫦
Venus may be a real hothead, but Mars is much more likely to blow its top - because it’s got the largest volcano in the entire Solar System. It’s called ‘Olympus Mons’. It’s not a meeting place for gods - just a really big, really neat volcano. You can even see in detail on our photorealistic Mars Planet Plushie! As a bonus, since Mars is being looked at by major players in the space race for colonization, maybe you can look for nice spots for your future space home on the plushie’s surface?
Next up is Saturn. The planet is famous for its rings, but they’re actually only about 100 million years old. We all need a fashion refresh sometimes, right? The planet’s main mass is also less dense than water, meaning it can float - but you’d need a cosmic-sized swimming pool for that!
The ice giant Uranus is our next stop! While our Uranus Planet Plushie is usually room temperature, the real deal is much, much colder. This is due in part to the methane gas swirling around the planet’s surface, which gives it that pretty blue color. Part of the reason that gas clings to the planet is because Uranus spins on its side - it’s tilted at about 98 degrees, so it’s basically always doing a cartwheel. Ugh, what a showoff! 🤸
Neptune blows into the list next, with gusts measuring over 1,200 miles per hour! Beat that, Chicago. This deep-blue windy city in the stars is one of few celestial bodies that we knew about before seeing it via telescope. How? Math. If you’re into that sort of thing, it can actually be really useful for predicting or observing things through patterns! Think about that the next time you think Algebra is useless, or nobody out in the real world needs to study Geometry.
On top of the planets and sun, our collection also includes asteroids, rockets, astronauts, and even a UFO! One plush sticks out a bit - our Boom Sonic Blast Plushie! “Wait, charming and knowledgeable writer, isn’t a sonic boom generated by stuff going really fast here on Earth? Like jets?” Well, yes, but space is way better at that sort of thing. Supernovas, dying stars, black holes, and cosmic shockwaves are all capable of producing massive blasts - but no worries, the plush version is just a perfectly controlled, huggable version of that chaos that’s more comfortable on your couch than out among the stars. 🎇
Stellar Similarities
The sheer number of celestial bodies in our Solar System alone is staggering, as is the variety of features they boast. They do, however, have a number of things in common. When you compress them down to plushie form, those commonalities become a lot more universal (Get it? Universe? Space?... Yeesh, tough crowd.)
Each of our planetary plush balls features high-quality build materials. Each one of them, from our Earth lit up at night to the ringed majesty of Saturn, has an outer shell made of soft polyester that’s silky-smooth to the touch. On the inside, they’re stuffed with polypropylene cotton down for a slippery squeeze that’s as therapeutic as it is just plain fun.
The same materials grace our spacefaring Astronaut Space Explorer Plushie Stuffed Toy, and its other non-planet companions. Every squishy star voyager in this collection is the ideal size for maximum huggability, with their form factors accounted for. The planetary plushies all come in two sizes; 6.6 inches around, or a much larger 10.6 inches. With the exception of Saturn, they’re all perfectly spherical, unlike the peaks and valleys of some of the celestial bodies they’re based on. Saturn, of course, being super fancy, has a protruding ring. While the real deal may be made of gases and rocks, our version values fluff over faithfulness to the source, so you’ll find the same polyester and polypropylene cotton down that covers the rest of the puny planetoid. 🪐
The Astronaut Space Explorer Plushie Stuffed Toy is larger than any of the planet stuffies, and at 23.6 inches tall, this little star voyager is just the right size for some cuddly spacefaring. It’s dwarfed by some of the other items in the collection, but they all have a few things in common. These galactic goobers all have the same soft plush polyester outer coating as their planet pals, and are all made to be about the right size for a variety of jobs, from pillow duty to desk jockeying. 🛰️
Useful Uranus and Other Ways To Add Some Planet Power To Your Day
Have a look up on a clear, starry night, and you’ll see the various celestial bodies drifting around lazily, just looking cool. Poke your head into a NASA mission control room, meanwhile, and you’ll see everybody busying themselves with literal moonshots - people dashing from place to place and doing tons of complicated calculations, just to explore space. Our collection of planet plushies is a bit more grounded, but it’s still got its head in the stars! So, if you’ve ever wondered, “What can the planets in our Solar System do for me?”, here’s your answer!
Every kid dreams of space at some point, but adulthood, for many of us, has its boring moments. Having a celestial cuddler nearby can help you to keep the imagination juices flowing, no matter where you are! 🌈
The entire collection is squishably soft, and great for sensory stimulation - if you or somebody you love could use a squish boost in your day, or perhaps a lap pillow to add a reassuring weight when you’re sitting down to ponder the orbs, any product in our Space Plushies collection will do the trick!
Put a flag in the ground at the office with a desk-friendly Moon Plushie Stuffed Rock Orb! Your cubicle isn’t just another generic place where the needle gets moved; it’s where every keystroke, every PowerPoint page, and every cup of coffee drained way too fast moves you just a little bit closer to your dreams, whatever they may be. 🏳️
Home decor need a lift? How about a few metric tons of lift? Try our Rocketship Space Plushie! Let its rainbow trail liven up your living room! Maybe you could put it in the den to make a statement that goes with the movies and games you display there; “We’re going up, up, up!” 🎙️
If you’re looking for more chill vibes, our Earth at Night Plushie is just the ticket! It would make a great addition to your study, for instance. If you happen to own a business where people gather, like a cafe, it could add a layer to the vibes, along with the calm music and strategic lighting.
If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, try adding some sunshine to your life with our Sun Star Plushie Stuffed Orb! You can harness the power of the sun with every squish, without having to worry about all that harmful UV radiation. This would make a great addition to any plush collection, or a bright spot on your bed or couch. Alternatively, the chaotic energy of our Boom Sonic Blast Explosion plush could give you just the boost you need to clear the mental fog and finish that important term paper, or whatever else you may be working on. ☀️
Speaking of collections, what if you’re the type that wants it all? You could have the entire Solar System right there in your bed, or on your couch. That would also be useful for the classroom, if you’ve got a pack of young space cadets to teach. Imagine how much more excited they’ll be to pass around your collection of squishy stars and rocks, versus just looking at a flat picture in a textbook!
Our Space Plushies collection has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a little star power, or you want to collect ‘em all! You can hold the cosmos in your hands - literally!
Planetary Power-Ups: What This Collection Gets Oh-So-Right
The Space Plushies Collection, this gallery of galactic goodness, has something for just about everybody! You'll find that each member of the collection brings something new to the table.
- Completely hypoallergenic! While real celestial bodies may be covered in dust, space rock, and other fine substances, our planet plushies, and every other piece in the collection, are free of all that nose-tickling nastiness.
- Most of the collection comes in a range of consistent sizes, making them easy to display side by side. The planetary plushies are all available in the same two sizes, and the larger plushies are close enough to each other in height and girth that you'll find it easy to build a cohesive theme with your decor.
- Educational and sophisticated, with fully-rendered satellite imagery on the planets - this is great for kiddos wanting to learn more about the planets, or adults wanting their favorite - or maybe the entire Solar System - to decorate their home or office! 📓
- Every single stuffy in the collection is made of high-quality materials with a squish quotient that's incalculably soft, making them excellent for some serene stress reflief squeezes.
Cosmic Cons: When the Orbit is Slightly Off
It's easy to think that all is right with the universe when it comes to this collection, but there are just a few caveats to consider.
- Unfortunately, as huggably soft as it may be, our Sun Star Plushie Stuffed Orb cannot actually power your home or provide a healthy light source. 💡
- The Mars Planet Plushie cannot be terraformed to provide a new home for our species. Trying to tell a certain few billionaires this fact didn't seem to get us very far.
- As fun as it may be, our Boom Sonic Blast Explosion plush does not contain any actual kinetic energy, which means it can't trigger any seismic or atmospheric phenomenon, such as a rainbow explosion that ties you to your future best friends. 🌈
- Pluto is not featured in this collection - the poor sap had its planethood stripped away by scientists, and thus, our fallen celestial homie is not in this collection. Truly, she deserved better. Drop an F in the order comments for ya girl when you buy up all her planetary buddies! 🫡
Extending Our Reach To The Stars Above: The Future of the Space Plushies Collection
Time marches inevitably on, and so do the ambitions of this humble online plush haven! Going forward, we're keeping a close eye on fan interest to decide what's next for the Space Plushies Collection. We could always add more non-spherical members to our very own Space Force, like specific historical astronauts or tiny plush models of real rockets that made space race history.
Adding in a wider range of celestial bodies is also a possibility. Who wouldn't love to snuggle up to a black hole, for example? Perhaps we could start adding constellations to the mix, to help our Astrologist fans feel seen. Heck, maybe we could right the wrong done to poor Pluto and include it in the future. Even if she's not a planet anymore, we still love her! 💓
Themed sub-collections and special editions are also a possibility - collector types take notice! We could zero in on specific star signs, or maybe roll out a glow-in-the-dark special edition of some of our space toys! Ultimately, these plushies are all rolled out with fans in mind. The aim here, no matter what course we chart through the squishy stars, is to give you new ways to put some outer space in your headspace - without leaving your living room!
Frequently Intercepted Signals
- How do you clean a whole planet?! Sure, a tiny plush one, but still...! ANSWER: By hand, with warm water and mild soap! Tossing these little star surfers into the wash may result in shrinkage and fading - and it stands to reason that a space walk with a shrunken space suit may not end well. 😵
- Are these plushies safe? Can anything break off? ANSWER: Perfectly safe! There are no small parts or zippers anywhere in sight on anything in the lineup, making them perfectly safe. You could even give one to your dog to tear up... but why would you want to?
- What if they lose their squish? ANSWER: The inner materials move around freely, like space dust. This means they may clump up from time to time. If that happens, use a hair dryer on low heat, and warm the plushie up while massaging the filling. That should get it back to giving the best hugs in outer space in no time!
- Can these plushies actually go out to space? ANSWER: Not on their own, but they'd likely hold their floof just fine in a zero-g environment.
- WHY NO PLUTO?! 😭 ANSWER: I know that feel, bro. 🫂
