Description

It was another day slinging ice cream at Marlow the Polar Bear’s ice cream truck. It had been bitterly cold the last few days here in the arctic, but today the sun was shining, and some of the snow was even melting a bit. Marlow was happy because he was staying busy today- he had parked his truck near a large herd of hungry walruses.
“I’ll take a scoop of anchovy marshmallow,” one walrus barked. “And I’ll take a scoop of lichen berry!” Another walrus called out. Marlow was working so hard, and the sun was so warm. Soon, some of the ice cream in his truck began to melt. The floors became slick with drippy ice cream. Just as Marlow was reaching for the lichen berry ice cream- flop! He slipped, and the scoops went flying. The scoops landed right on top of each other in the snow. The walruses wrinkled their noses in disgust. “Lichen berry does not go with anchovy marshmallow,” they complained. Marlow was halfway through an apology when he noticed one of the walruses waddling over to the ice cream mess and taking a cautious bite.
“Hey!” The walrus called out after one bite, and then another. “This is delicious!” Soon, the whole walrus community was in line for the famous anchovy marshmallow lichen berry combo. Marlow smiled as he scooped the ice cream. Sometimes, mistakes aren’t such a bad thing!

Unlike our cute friend Marlow, real polar bears are typically strict carnivores. They are adept at hunting on the ice and primarily hunt seals. They are known to post up near a known seal breathing hole or even break through layers of ice to get to prey. When seals are scarce, polar bears can adapt to hunting other prey. While these huge animals may not look it, they are excellent swimmers and can move quickly and effectively through the water with ease. Other sources of food include whale carcasses, birds, eggs, and small arctic mammals such as arctic hares. Occasionally, polar bears eat fish, berries, and seaweed.

Despite the polar bear’s tough and rugged reputation, our friend Marlow measures in at 10 inches. The luxurious polypropylene stuffing stitched together with a soft plush exterior and polyester shell makes this little guy one cuddly bear. Marlow is the perfect companion for anyone in search of loveable belly flop snuggles.
