One night, Millie the mouse was caught stealing cheese. The humans caught her red handed as she was smuggling some cheddar back to her nest. There was the usual hullabaloo of shrieks and frantic jumping up and down from the humans. With her heart beating wildly in her chest, Millie did not run. She had an idea. She rolled over. The humans stopped screaming and watched her intently. So Millie rolled over again. A perfect little tumble. “Okay, that was pretty cute.” One of the humans admitted. “It couldn’t hurt to give her a little cheese. I didn’t know mice knew such cute tricks!” Delighted, Millie accepted the cheese and rolled over one more time for good measure. After being gently set down outside, Millie scampered to her nest. She had a full belly and a wild story to tell her family.

Small openings around doors, pipes, or foundations allow mice to enter while following familiar scent trails. Once indoors, mice often forage at night to avoid disturbance while exploring kitchens, pantries, and trash areas. These foraging habits, driven by survival, are a common reason mice end up inside buildings.
