Cotton candy was introduced to the world back in 1904, where it appeared at the World's Fair under the name "Fairy Floss". Ironically, one of its inventors was a dentist. This time-tested dessert, made from sugar spun into fine threads and intertwined with air, has found itself the subject of countless culinary experiments over the year. Attempts to ape its distinctive flavor have come quite a ways, and now, that distilled flavoring is popular in baked desserts, including macarons.
This lighter-than-air mush ball measures 14.6 inches across, and is every bit as soft and squishy as its namesake. The exterior is soft plush polyester, while the insides are made of polypropylene cotton down. Unlike real cotton candy, you can wash this toy if it gets dirty; just use warm water and a mild soap. Putting it through a typical machine wash cycle could result in fading or shrinkage.
