Bobby the black cat lived near the docks. He was charming, sly, and a little mischievous, but the fish merchants let him be because he kept the rodent population in check. However, they all had suspicions he would steal a fish or two, but none of the merchants ever caught him in the act. Maybe it was Bobby, maybe it wasn’t. They weren’t sure. What they did know is that Bobby hung around a lot.

“How do you always get away with it?” A jealous seagull asked Bobby one day. 

“Simple” Bobby said nonchalantly as he groomed his paw. Bobby explained how he waited til nightfall, and then rolled in between merchant tents. “Everyone expects a cat to be leaping from one place to another. But no one expects a cat that rolls under the radar,” Bobby said with a cheeky smile. 

Cats like to fish because it lets them use their natural hunting instincts while having fun. They enjoy watching fish swim back and forth in the water and are often fascinated by the movement and reflections on the surface. When a cat goes fishing, it may sit very still and patiently wait for the perfect moment to strike. Many cats try to catch fish by quickly dipping a paw into the water. Even indoor cats like to “fish” by watching aquariums or playing with toy fish. Fishing activities help cats stay mentally engaged and curious. Although most cats do not actually catch fish, they clearly enjoy the challenge and excitement of trying.
