Fizzy, the Baby Blue bear, had a bit of a problem. He loved to snack, gobble, and munch. His appetite wasn’t the issue, it was that he could only eat blue things. Blueberry muffins, blue raspberry cotton candy...if it was blue, Fizzy was interested.

One day, Fizzy noticed his vision was a little blurry. After a trip to the doctor, he scheduled a quick eye procedure to correct his sight. He asked his friends to help care for him while he recovered. The other forest animals eagerly agreed, promising to bring him meals, check in on him, and keep him company while his eye bandages stayed on.

On the first day, Fizzy’s friend the turtle brought him blue corn tortilla chips with melted blue cheese. “Delicious! I can really taste the blue!” Fizzy said gratefully.

On the second day, Fizzy’s friend the hare brought sapphire dragonfruit slices. “That’s one delicious blue fruit!” Fizzy complimented her.

By the third day, Fizzy still had to keep his eye bandages on. A new friend in the forest, Squirrel, offered to bring him a meal. She spent all day cooking a tasty chestnut quiche. On her way to Fizzy’s house, Squirrel ran into Goose.

“Where are you going with that delicious dinner?” asked Goose.
“I’m bringing it to Fizzy! He still has to wear his eye bandages, so he can’t cook for himself yet,” Squirrel replied.

Squirrel noticed a strange expression on Goose’s face but shrugged and knocked on Fizzy’s door.
“This smells incredible!” Fizzy called as she served him a plate of chestnut quiche—a meal very much not blue. Fizzy gobbled it up and asked for seconds. Squirrel smiled and served him again. Just then, the doctor knocked on the door.
“Time to take off your bandages! And I see you’ve gotten over your extreme preference for blue foods. Congratulations!” Fizzy blinked, looked down at the quiche, and smiled. “I guess I have! More, please!!”

Baby blue is a very light, soft shade of blue, often described as pale blue or powder blue. The name dates back to the late 19th century, when it became closely associated with children’s clothing and nursery decor. Today, baby blue is strongly linked to calmness, innocence, and gentleness, which makes sense given its common use in baby clothing and decor; it’s meant to feel peaceful and soothing. In Western culture, baby blue has traditionally been associated with baby boys. When announcing a baby’s gender, baby blue typically signals a boy, while pink signals a girl. This connection began in the 20th century; before that, color coding for gender was much less fixed.
