There are three types of squirrels: tree squirrels, ground squirrels and flying squirrels. They all belong to the family Sciuridae, which is perhaps why a group of squirrels is known as a scurry. Tree squirrels can rotate their ankles 180 degrees to allow them to climb down a 🌳tree head first. That is quite the feat for a mammal! Squirrels contribute to seed dispersal by hiding large numbers of seeds in small hoards and forgetting about some of their locations. The uneaten seeds can then have the chance to germinate into new trees. This is known as scatterhoarding.
