Penguins 🐧 may be birds, but they are birds that were made for life in water, not on land. Hence their awkward shuffle as they walk. The smallest penguin is the Fairy Penguin 🧚🏿♂️, from New Zealand, and stands at around 12 or 13 inches (30-33cm). The largest species is the Emperor Penguin, over three times the size of the smallest one at 3 feet 7 inches (1.1m). Clumsy on land, but extremely agile in the water, penguins are fast swimmers, and the Gentoo Penguin has been recorded reaching speeds of 22 miles per hour (36 km per hour). They can also dive surprisingly deep ⤵️, with Emperor Penguins being the deepest-diving birds in the world. They have been seen at depths of 1,800 feet (550m) on their quest to find food. Impressive!
