While some steer clear of its sour personality, others can't get enough, and see it as nature's sour candy. Did you now that the granny smith apple is named after a real Granny Smith? This sour fruit was born in 1868 when an Australian woman, Maria Ann Smith unintentionally blended what is believed to be a European wild apple with the domesticated apple. Although there are different versions of the story, one example including her dumping old crab apples by a creek, resulting in a new seedling which she grew into the iconic green apples. Whatever the case, we have Maria Ann Smith -- who was later nicknamed Granny Smith -- to thank for these unique fruits.

These sour squishes measure at 4.2 inches, and are made with a crocheted, soft wool exterior. As with the other members of our Plush Wool-Knit Collection, the granny smith apple is stuffed with a lightweight blend of polypropylene cotton down, making it softer than any fruit you'd find at your local produce market. We suggest storing your plushie apple away from direct sunlight to maintain its vibrant color, and it may be cleaned with lint rolling.
