The gin-based daisy from the mid-1930s is thought to have led to the popular citrus vodka-based Cosmopolitan, which is said to have originated in the 1970s. The Daisy eventually gave rise to other cocktails, such as the Sidecar, which also uses brandy as its base spirit, the Margarita (“margarita” is the Spanish word for “daisy”), the most popular tequila-based cocktail, and the White Lady, made with gin.
