Kangaroos live in courts, herds, mobs or troops. A kangaroo is a marsupial, an animal that has a special pouch to carry its underdeveloped young. The technical term for that pouch is marsupium, hence the name of this mammal group. The presence of that pouch was made famous in TV shows 🎬 such as Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, in the 1960s. There are currently 334 species of marsupials, most of them located in Australia and neighboring New Guinea, and about a third in Central and South America. Only one species of marsupial inhabits North America: the Virginia opossum.
