The common daisy (Bellis perennis), also known as the lawn daisy or the English daisy, is often considered the archetype of the daisy. It is most likely the first plant to be named “daisy”, a name that quite possibly came from “day’s eye”, because the flower closes at night and opens in the morning. In medieval times, the common daisy was known as “Mary’s Rose”. Flower buds and petals are edible, as are young leaves, although they become more astringent as they mature. Parts of the plant are sometimes used to make herbal tea🫖.
