This compact, pistol sized sub-machine gun owes its endurance and popularity to its affordable, simple construction. Mostly made from stamped sheet metal, with minimal moving internal parts, the uzi is both reliable and easy to maintain and repair. The Israeli 🇮🇱 designed weapon, first used by Israel Defense Forces in 1956, soon made its way through the rest of the military, where it has remained even today.

Designed by Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal, the uzi features two external safety mechanisms. A three position selector lever is located at the top of the grip, and prevents the bolt from moving. The second safety device is the grip safety itself, which is made to prevent accidental discharge if the weapon is dropped. Due to its open bolt system, the uzi is widely known for having a momentary delay between the trigger being pulled and firing.
