Axolotls are naturally cheerful little fellows, and are often perfectly content to float along lazily or chill out in a well decorated tank. They're an incredibly popular pet, being about as high-maintenance as the average fish. They tend to find themselves in aquariums, zoos, and other domestic settings pretty often, which works out fairly well for them, because their native range has been scaled down to a single lake in Mexico! Does the humble axolotl let this massive habitat loss dampen its spirits? Of course not! Whether you head to their home base in Mexico City or observe one being kept at home, or studied for their incredible regenerative capabilities, you're almost certain to be greeted by a happy-go-lucky amphibian with a smile - or the closest it can manage - on its face. 

The basket these axolotls chill in until you're ready to play measures 7.8 inches across. Each individual axolotl, meanwhile, is less than 5 inches in diameter. This allows five of the blissful critters to stuff themselves into each basket that we ship out. Both the basket and the creatures within have soft plush polyester on the outside, and the axolotls boast a squishy filling made from polypropylene cotton down. The one way you can dampen their high spirits is by tossing them in a washer - you'd probably be pretty bummed, too, if you were fading, shrinking, and warping. A hand wash with warm water and mild soap will do just fine, if one of your axolotls parties a bit too hard and needs a scrub.
