This classic fruit is often associated with teachers as a stereotypical gift received from their students. Although rarely done today, the act of giving apples to teachers can be traced back to before the 19th Century, when the funding of education was primarily left to parents and families of the students. While middle and upper class families could pay with money, others relied on barter systems for payment, which included food. Farming families, who were able to pay teachers with baskets loaded down with produce, often gave potatoes, and of course, the iconic apple. 

These affable apples measure at 3.4 by 3.7 inches, and are not only smaller, but squishier than their tasty lookalikes. As with all members of the Plush Fruit Basket Collection, this little fruit is made with a soft polyester exterior, and is plum full of a special, polypropylene cotton blend, making it as huggable as a feather down pillow. This fruit isn't fussy, and requires little maintenance, but may be gently cleaned with warm water; too hot or too cold may cause shrinking or fading.
